WEST OF ENGLAND AMATEUR LADIES OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP 2017

In dry but very windy conditions ladies played at Bath Golf Club on Sunday 11th June for the Harper Salver, won by Megan Giles of St. Mellion.

Unfortunately, from an initial field of 57, five had to drop out on the day mainly due to injury but the remaining 52 fought hard over two rounds for the Harper Salver and the Costeloe Nett Trophy.

The quality of the handicaps was excellent and the enthusiasm and professionalism shown by the players continued throughout the day.

Although the wind could have been described as distinctly fresh on the first tee, on the top of the hill at Bath one would undoubtedly have called it a 3-club wind!  In view of this, our winner’s performance is all the more impressive as she matched the course record with her second round of 69 and came in with a gross 144, which is one of the best results for the Harper Salver.

Hard on Megan’s heels came Becky Dean with a second round gross of 70 but 78 in her first round gave her a total of 148.  She was pipped for second place by Mimi Rhodes who maintained a very steady 73 twice round Bath’s par 74 course and came in with 146.

Chelsea Masters and Lauren Hillier both with 148, gained 4th and 5th places respectively on countback from Becky.

Jemima Gregson with a 71 took Best Gross AM and Megan Lockett with 72 won the Best Gross PM.

Harper Salver Winner Megan Giles also won the Costeloe Trophy for her 142 while the nett prizes went to 1st, Nicola Wainwright on countback from 2nd, Jess Hays both with 144 and 3rd to Nicola Slater on 148.

Congratulations to all our winners and especially to teenager member at Bath, Jess Hays, who played 4 under and came in with a nett 70 on her second round.
